GOLF COURSES
The Orihuela Costa has one of the best and most important golf offers of the Mediterranean coast. Three international well-known golf courses with a total of 54 holes in an area of 1,700,000m in Campoamor, Las Ramblas and Villamartin are within 5 minutes of Alegría.
Other courses designed by Niklaus and Putman, such as the Mar Menor and Alicante Golf clubs, offer spectacular terrain and lightening fast greens.
For the complete recreational experience, most of your local golf clubs also offer tennis, swimming, diving, equestrian and a host of other sports in this year-round Mediterranean climate, as well as extraordinary dining, gaming and spa facilities.
BEACHES
Orihuela beaches, year after year, are distinguised with "Blue Flag" awards, and they also offer all the services that visitors may need. Thanks to the privileged warm climate, you can practise water sports, sunbathe, swim and build sand castles to your heart's content.
Our favourite beach is Campoamor (a 5 minute drive from Alegría). There's something about this long stretch of warm white sand next to a lovely marina that makes you want to stay all day in the sun and sea (but don't forget your suncream!). If you need a cold drink or an ice cream, there's a little cafe next to the beach.
But Campoamor is only one of many delicious beaches. LaZenia and Caboroig are a stone's throw away, and offer a long cliff walk for energetic sunset-watchers.
RESTAURANTS
You will find a plethora of restaurants in nearby Villamartin and CaboRoig, to say nothing of what's on offer just 15 minutes away in Torrevieja. Taste the cuisine and fine wines of 20 different countries, from Europe to the Far East, simply by wandering through Villamartin or CaboRoig.
But if you really want to savour a good paella or dine in old sailing ship decor on the beach, make your way to San Pedro or La Mata for a delicious meal. Then wander into the market square to enjoy a good espresso with your dessert and watch families strolling through the park.
MARKET DAYS
You simply must stroll through an open-air Spanish market at least once during your stay at Alegría. (See Gallery--you can almost taste those tangy olives!). It's a great place to pick up tonight's vegetables or fresh olives or a brightly painted gift to take home. You can find a market in some small nearby town almost any day of the week.--Don't miss it!
FIESTAS, Places of Interest & Entertainment
For the more adventurous visitors to Alegría--if you are not content to sun yourself beside the swimming pool or get sand between your toes at Campoamor--a day's outing will take you to the rich tapestry of Granada's Alhambra or the mountains of Andalucia and the monastaries of Murcia.
If the night is still young by then, your options for sparkling Spanish music and dance are almost endless. And at the end of a long day, Alegría welcomes you home to enjoy a goblet of Spanish wine on the terrace, still warm from the day's sun.
